Music Inspiration - Jazz
The opening song for this album, “100$ Bill” by Jay-Z, contains a chopped and screwed beat and electro-rap elements and is written from the perspective of a modern-day Gatsby. It begins with a speech by Leonardo DiCaprio, backed by samples of a children’s choir and a ‘20s jazz horn. In the song, Jay-Z raps about being remembered and the comparison of wealth from the 1920s and the 21st century.

Concept
Linear Rhythmic Complexity
Similar to the way The Great Gatsby blended the past with the present through early 20th century jazz and contemporary hip-hop, the concept of this luminaire takes a more modern approach to the Art Deco style inspired for these album covers with the glamour of antique metal and glass, rich ornamentation, and geometric layering of lines and shapes.
Constructed of steel square rods welded together, spray painted to match classic antique brass, and repurposed bevel-edged amber glass panels and chain from a used lamp.
The chosen light source carries on the traditional appearance of Thomas Edison’s first light bulb, but utilizes LED lighting technology and is also dimmable.
